Primary Academics

Year 2 in the classroom

At Toowoomba Christian College, students are encouraged to do their personal best in everything they do; that is, to use the gifts and talents that they have been given to achieve to their full potential. Dedicated teachers follow the latest curriculum to ensure a program is taught which is underpinned by academic excellence.

English, Mathematics, Science and History curricula is based on the developing Australian Curriculum.  Other subjects which have not yet been developed into the Australian Curriculum are still based on the Queensland Syllabus.

Students in Prep to Year 6 participate in specialist lessons in the following subjects:

•    Physical Education

•    Music

•    Information Technology

•    Drama

At TCC Primary, we strongly believe in partnering with parents in the education of their children. Our Learning Support teachers provide individual and small group intervention for students who require extra assistance. In addition to this, Tuesday Help is offered to all students in Years 3 - 6 who feel that they could benefit from extra assistance.

Teachers use the latest technology to ensure that learning opportunities are presented in a captivating way.  All Primary classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, as well as desktop or laptop computers.

As part of our Primary Maths program we provide every student in Years 1 - 6 with access to Mathletics, a web-based learning program which integrates home and school learning via the internet. Students are also provided with access to Spelling City, an online spelling tool which allows them to practise their spelling skills and strategies in a fun and interactive way.  Students in Prep and Year 1 utilise the ABC Reading Eggs Program.

At TCC Primary we have a wonderful culture of reading.  All students in Years 4-6 participate in the Accelerated Reader Program.  Once students have read a book in their goal range they complete a quiz on that book.  As the students progress through the program they are given certificates for their achievements and if they make their goal by the end of term they can be part of an Accelerated Reader Sausage Sizzle.
